Orange Pekoe refers to the grade of black tea. Composed purely of the new flush - a flush being the leaf bud plucked with the two youngest leaves. Pekoe is derived from the Chinese word meaning “white downy hair,” referring to the down like hairs on the young leaves. Orange comes from the royal Dutch family (House of Orange-Nassu) who was a major tea importer into the Netherlands in the 1600’s.
